How about wading through 56 city block sized floors of product?

Remember, 90% of what you need to weed through isn't what you want to see....and the 10% of what you do...

is sprinkled throughout.

Imagine shopping from 9 am to 9pm, and then going to a hotel room and ordering from the computer/ catalogs until 2 AM....then getting up at 6 to start all over again for 6 days straight!

The strangest part?

You're not bringing home a single purchase...

only bags filled with paperwork and catalogs.

How Would You Like to Count an Entire Store?

I'm judging by the look on Colleen's face....she'd really rather be displaying with this candle holder than counting it... wouldn't you?

Oh YES, it's THAT time of the year again...

INVENTORY!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

One person sits and tallies, while the other gets on hands and knees....

or up on a ladder to count every little thing!

BELIEVE IT!

Of course, that is why we have inventory reduction sales at the end of December...

the less there is, the less we have to count!

The good news?

We are way ahead of the game by having lots of lovely new items either here already, or on their way to redo the store!

Yippee!!!

So, to recap:

We will be finishing off our inventory today.

Then we will spend the next week putting the store back together while doing maintenance etc.

Some of the girls will be doing nothing but open new products and get them priced and ready to go out on the floor.

Off to market to order even more to keep the flow of product coming too!

We are super excited about how this is all going, and are excited to see what the New Year will bring to

Just wanted to swing in here before the blessed day arrives to wish you all a

VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

If you recall, a few blog posts ago....

we showed you the first half of our

Progressive Christmas Party.

We had just visited Karen and Abby, and so on we went to lovely Judy's home!

What a treat!

We enjoyed seeing all the lovely and elegant decor at Judy's place!

Judy has such a knack for decorating...c'mon Judy....you know you want to come & work at

Grandiflora right???

It was such a Joy to see the lovely items she had used from the store, mixed with decor from other shops, and vintage as well.

Let's put it this way; Judy "gets" it! :)

Well it's official...we've already partied for Christmas!

What a wonderful time we had!

First we headed out to Karen's and Abby's adorable homes for appetizers!

(Both Karen and Abby are treasured Grandiflora Shoppers!)

We were also in love with this sweet lighted tree in the bathroom....love those birdies!

Then we tip toed over to her daughter Abby's home for more adorable decor ideas.

We thought the branch over the kitchen sink with ornaments was great!

I love the combination of the vintage windows (below) with the wreaths.

Simple + Cute!

They had the absolute best spiral staircase...I've always dreamed of having one of those!

Colleen is such a cutie pie huh?

We ADORED the Oh Holy Night wording in sparkly letters....

....what a fun night we had there!

They were so gracious to share their homes with us.

Good Morning Grandiflora, You Are Worth Every Effort!!!

How wonderful it is to come in to the shop in the mornings and see all the lovely items awaiting new homes.

I had the pleasure the other morning of coming in to work earlier than normal.

( I say pleasure...because it is absolutely wonderful to be able to work somewhere so filled with beauty!)

I was struck by the sunlight pouring in the windows....

I had to capture it!

The awesome pools of gold on a crisp Autumn morning were so pretty....I stood in silence and just gazed over the products seeing so many wonderful future gifts, decorations, and party frivolities.

I thought to myself....

How blessed am I to work at such a happy place?

A place so able to fill other's lives with fun and joy?

All that I (and my sister La Von, and my mom Jan too) have toiled over & sacrificed to keep this favored shop alive & breathing right here in our tiny little burg of Lynden.....

well....

IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!

I got a little emotional to be honest, first tears swelled up....and then I found myself laughing hysterically at how dorky I must've looked standing there dumbfounded with a camera in one hand & a tissue in the other!

SO,

KNOW WHAT I DID???

I cranked up the happy music, sat down & got REAL THANKFUL!

Every day I am thankful for faithful, loyal shoppers just like you!

This Autumn Season I'm giving thanks for all your support, happy visits, and frankly purchases.

Christmas Timeline:

1. Order all the decor in January (yes...JANUARY!!!)

2. Start receiving the product between March and May....yep...FOR REALS!

3. Continue receiving & pricing and bringing to the storage unit all summer.

4. SEPTEMBER: ORGANIZE THE STORAGE UNIT.

Truly,

this is an all day affair, and takes NO LESS than 4-5 people to pull it off within one day.

Every box needs to come out, be opened and have a decsision made as to what

"look"

it will fit into....and then packed back up and put into well catagorized groupings.

It's a big job...but must be done in order for us to completely transform

into a veritable winter wonderland

It's so fun to see all the goodies we've almost forgotten about since ordering in January.

Much forward thinking goes into making the decision what to buy and what not to.

At first this seems like a load of fun, and oh it is!

We were in our glory for about a few hours of this....and then it became more than a few hours...

Behind the Scenes at Market with the Owners of Grandiflora!

If you like bags, jewelry, scarves, & hats...then you're gonna LOVE this post!

We took off last weekend to:

Seattle!

We love to attend market to hunt down all the latest and coolest new digs.

This time we spent most of one day searching out all the cutest new looks for fall and winter!

We are so lucky to get in and shop for you, our customer in the department which is called

"Cash & Carry"

You see, most of "Market" consists of going into a showroom & looking through hoards and hoards of candles, home decor, and silks. You spend days and days marking up order forms, sitting in front of computer screens, with tired eyes....and even more tired feet.

THEN,

YOU,

WAIT..............

WAIT>>>>>>>SOME>>>>>>MORE!!!

It can take up to 9 months to get orders placed in January!

It makes it kinda hard for folks to understand how things work in the store when they

"....want just one more???"

We try our hardest to keep on top of things, but it's always a bit difficult when a reorder is involved.

HOWEVER...

"Cash and Carry"

is just that:

Whoo Hoo!

We LIKE it alot...it's SO refreshing from the norm of order now.....get in 6 months.

So,

we take a few trusted employees along & start pickin'

We think long and hard about what we need to find.

This trip we had taken hours to look for the perfect new floral bags (see first photo), and a new purse line (come to store to see!).

Then we spent hours shopping for jewelry in all the best finishes & styles.

Scarves are always on the top of the list for us at this time of the year...you should see the cute ones in the store already!

After that we wandered around and decided we needed some

SUPER CUTE HATS!!!

Here's Janice our Office Manager in a sweet hand knit warmer.

....she was looking quite chic, so....

...we all listened to the owner of the company give us some tutorials to take back for all of you about hats!

She was quite the wiz bang with the way hats should compliment your features...and how there is a hat for everyone!

Small head, short hair, big head, long hair, even folks who fight with wearing glasses...

We found the cutest hat that looked different on everone!

You can scruntch it and tweak it to look good on anyone!

Amazing how two sisters that are SO DIFFERENT....and yet very similar can look real cute in the same hat worn very differently.

( Yep, that's La Von my sister and partner & me Trish looking oh so dashing in our new found fave hat.)

Autumn & A Behind the Scenes Photo Shoot

So, have you ever wondered what it takes to get a beautiful photo shoot?

Well:

1. Gorgeous Products

2. A designer's eye for product photography.

3. The right light.

4. Decent equipment & photographer.

5. TIME TIME TIME!

Here is a behind the scenes look at a basic set up for a photo shoot of our products at Grandiflora.

Yeah, it loses a bit of romance when you see it this way, but realistically one must have vision beyond the obvious to create.

Thankfully there is an endless supply of wonderful products to choose from here at the shop.

The first thing we do is wander the floor for a piece which will inspire the shot.

In this instance it was the Goldenrod colored Bird Cage.

Then we pick other elements to go along side that accent the statement piece.

Arranging for a photo display is much more difficult than a display in the store which is more of a living breathing thing. Displays in the shop can constantly be changing, are 3 dimensional, and generally look great from alot of angles.

In photography, one must make their own depth by placement, cozyness & warmth with colors and textures, and generally make a flat image come to life with inatimate objects.

Yeah....I know...tough huh?

Well, after much time spent hunting, prepping, arranging, shooting, & editing....we have a lovely Autumn inspired vignette that is vintagey & dreamy.

I don't know about you, but this photo makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside....and the late summer, early fall colors don't threaten me too much since this summer has been less than desirable.

It's Official-Summer is ALMOST here!

June 21st, Summer will officially start! It has been a wet, windy and grey few months and we are all READY to embrace summer! In celebration of this event - we are having a Summer Sale-A-Bration beginning Tuesday, June 21st (the first day of summer) - continuing through Saturday, July 2nd!

If you haven't been in the store lately - you just might not recognize it! Things have changed and shifted. We are gaining an office, which you can read about on our previous post, and the displays all look new and fresh! We love to pass savings on to you, our valued customer!

Just one of the new changes that has occured at the shop lately...

If you havn't been in the store for the last little bit, you may not know about the moving around that we are doing lately.

The first in the steps was to clear out the "red room" at the top of the stairs and move all the product from that room into the rest of the shop.

What a chore!

Our poor visual display team is exhausted from all the work....but leave it to them to rise to the challenge and super-exeed the task and make things look

SO LOVELY!

So, are you wondering why the "red room" had to go???

I'll tell you.

We NEVER expected to get THIS BIG...& frankly we plan to grow even more

....eventually...

SO,

we NEED an OFFICE;

Grandiflora Girl Headquarters if you will.

Can't you just see it?

All us Girls putting our heads together to dream up of all the coolest things yet?

We can't wait!

It will make our store run even more smoothly.

Our bookeepers will now be able to

"come out of the closet"

LITERALLY!!!

We won't have to do our paperwork from kitchen countertops anymore, sitting on step ladders, and talking on office phone calls while someone else is loudly taping up a package.

Please Forgive us for being just a tiny bit selfish...

we have been cramped and shorted on space for over 10 years.

We are looking forward to serving you better with some room to stretch our

"wings".

As Walt Disney himself put it:

Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you shop at the store one day and you see something you think you may want to get...but don't....for whatever reason, seems to be gone the next day or so you come back for it? Yeah...that happens ALOT!

Our lovely items seem to "Fly " out the door sometimes!

We buy "one-of-a-kind-y" things for the shop...usually not in deep quantities. We do that to keep the store fresh and interesting. Sometimes we need to have quantity on items like lotions, candles, and stems of greens. But the specialty items....well that's a different story!

The girls have been reworking the store with much vim and vigor to start all our new projects coming this Summer and Fall.

You should stop on by to say "Hi" and see what all the fuss is about!

Oh doing booths is so much fun!

Don't get us wrong....it's sure alot of work too!

However...we love what we do...so this kind of work is always the best kind of work!

This is the 2nd part of our double booth at

2nd Saturdayz

last weekend in Snohomish Washington

for

the 2nd Saturdayz 1st anniversary Road Show!

This booth had 2 distinct looks.

See the previous post for the "Granny Chic" look.

then...

we had this look

I'm not quite sure that there is a proper name for it...but I'd catagorize it as

"farmhouse chic" with a hint of "shabby chic" and a bit of "cottage" too!

Whatever you'd call it, it was lovely!

It's always so much fun to hear the reactions of folks walking by and searching through the booth for goodies.

Some folks really like the POP of color from the Granny Chic...and others really liked the subdued pastels and creamy naturals of the "Farmhouse Chic".

I personally like to mix the two together!

But,

that's another blog post altogether!

This booth was extremely full...but really fun to rummage throught as there were so many awesome treasures to find.

As I'm sure you can imagine, we didn't sell everything...and we couldn't take everything we had set aside in the first place for this show....

so....

we are slowly mixing the rest of these goodies into the shop in the next week or so.

If you get the chance to slip in to Grandiflora soon....you might be able to score some of these goodies too!

The First Half of the Booth Story...

Well, it was time for a little road trip.

on one half of the booth...

.....it was so wonderfully cheerful!

We had SO much fun setting this look up...I mean c'mon....how wouldn't you???

It's like being a little kid again!

So many fun memories wrapped up in this look, and all the young girls are lovin' it as it's all new to them!

The older crowd just stands around and giggles at all the items they used to have,

never dreaming that they'd be collectible someday!

on the road this past weekend, there were many obstacles.

However the end result was a hit....and we enjoyed ourselves too!

Loading in the rain....and unloading in the rain was a bit of a bummer....but the parts in between went really well.

Just in "THYME" for Mother's Day!

We are SO EXCITED to announce the return of:

YAY!!!

Grandiflora was once the premier place to find all that was best for Thymes Products North of Seattle.

As the THYMES company grew there were many changes and growing pains...all in areas which never affected the QUALITY of the product itself....which is impeccable. Sadly they discontinued the Mandarin Coriander Home Keeping Scent and our following was heartbroken. We continued to carry the Frasier Fir scent throughout the Holidays, but the body care line dwindled from lack of selection at the company.

THEN,

we recieved word that the Mandarin Coriander portion of the line was making a comeback

(as apparently we were'nt the only ones missing that part of the Home Line)

SO....

we decided to bring it back to the shop....& take a second look at the body care line once again.

MY OH MY!

Were we surprised how in our absence from what we considered a line destined to disappear, was a new and fresh selection of delightful scents!

Whoo Hoo!

Without more delay....here are the fabulous scents we chose and why:

I'm not quite sure why....but stepping into this photo/display is like stepping into the famous book

"The Secret Garden".

I am a romantic at heart, and there is just something lovely about having a little space of your own

"....in which to plant seeds and watch them grow..."

I think every woman needs to have a place to call their own; a place to rejuvenate themselves.

You've seen some of the other color ways here on the blog already this week.... but this is the one that screams true Sun and Sky

SPRING!!!

We all love the fresh crisp look it has given our shop.

I think it would be great for home offices, kitchens, and craft rooms.

So many of the regular items we seem to carry here in the shop seem to fit in perfectly.

Take for instance this sweet little bird photo and nest.

The tiny fern just brings things to life; don't you agree?

I personally need one of those paper message cubes here at my desk to keep me organized!

Frankly, I wish I had a set of the patterned boxes to shove stuff in when company is coming!

I might even use one of them to stash all the Easter candy I'm trying to hide from myself!!!

One of the other things I always like to point out to folks about our shop is....

how even the "underneath parts" and the "over the top parts"

of our displays hold so many goodies!!!

Don't forget to walk around a bit and ponder things down low and up high.

You'll find pleanty of hidden gems if you slow down and wander through twice.

Am I the only one who is craving color these days?

I think not!

Oh there are so many great things in the shop now which are full of color!!!

Those little aqua pots on the top shelf would be so sweet planted up on my kitchen windowsill...

the fun retro chic oven mitt is just what I need to get me excited about baking for Easter...

the cute handcrafted patchwork pillow would be SO sweet on my wicker chair on the front porch...

and frankly...I NEED a new insulated lunchbag, orange would be adorable!
